Taika’s Front Yard
This project was set to redefine high-end townhouse living in Point Chevalier, until a well-known Kiwi director swooped in and bought the entire site before construction began.
Set on one of Point Chevalier’s most sought-after streets, this project set out to redefine what multi-unit living could look like in a premium suburb. Working within the generous front yard of an existing home, we introduced four spacious townhouses designed to offer a refined and luxurious lifestyle while respecting the surrounding coastal context.
Each home features a carefully considered layout: open plan kitchen, dining, and living areas on the ground floor connect seamlessly to large north-facing courtyards with timber decks and lush planting. Upstairs, the homes offer generous master suites, two additional bedrooms, family bathroom, and a study nook. One of the units, designed for the site’s owners, expands the layout further, with a double garage and four bedrooms to suit multigenerational living or long-term flexibility.
Externally, the architecture is understated yet elegant. A curved timber rainscreen softens the upper level, referencing the natural forms of nearby pōhutukawa trees in the Point Chev beach reserve. The material palette draws on its coastal surroundings, combining soft, stone-washed bricks, stained timber cladding, and warm brown tones in the window joinery and detailing to create a calm, contemporary feel. These homes offer something rarely seen in Point Chevalier, townhouse living elevated through thoughtful design, material richness, and a clear connection to place.
