This modest, 100m2 house has been designed as a private getaway for an Auckland-based actor and film connoisseur. Set at the top of large sloping site in Tamaterau, east of Whangerai, the house has been designed with privacy in mind and assembled using a simple palette of natural timbers, concrete render, and black metal.

The floor plan is a split between public and private, separated by a change in level and change in materials. With unobstructed views out over the Whangerai Harbour, a media / flex room, and a paved courtyard to the north, this small home still boasts plenty of excitement.

A timber viewing platform nestled under the cantilevered roof form is the perfect place to reconnect with the environment and escape the hustle and bustle of the city.
